I have to say I am a little irritated this morning. It felt a little chilly so I checked the weather. There is a change of a light freeze tonight. It is April 6th. This just isn't right. Yesterday I cleaned up all of my garden stuff. Put my row cover neatly away, along with all of the skewers I use to stake it down and clothespins I use to attach it to the tomato cages. Now I have to get everything out again. Also, my plant are much taller now, so I had to buy some larger skewers (last time I used short bamboo ones) to prop the row cover above the plants. Luckily, Central Market had them on clearance so I bought a bunch. I hope my newly planted melons survive the night.
Alright, enough whining. At least it's not snowing, like it has been in Seattle for the past week.
Things could always be worse :)

Welcome, Laura! And I agree, I was a bit irritated myself when I watched the weather report this morning. Sigh. Like you, I spent the weekend cleaning up winter stuff and planting new baby plants. The good news is, South Austin is often a bit warmer than the weather predictions, so perhaps we won't get quite as cold. Hope your tomatoes and melon stay warm.
Ditto! What a pain! I live just East of I-35 and I always find that my thermometer reads 5 degrees or more warmer than what the weather stations report. Still ... looking at my baby plants, too, and feeling nervous ...
I was there with you doing all that covering again and it still got a number of my plants. Lost a tomato or two and lots of burn damage. Is it over I wonder?
I hope it's over. Sorry you lost a few plants. Luckily I only lost two cucumbers that I had planted just a few days before. They are easily replaceable. Now we're at polar opposite and I may have lost my swiss chard today due to the 90+ degrees.
